Wondertree & Me Classes
Our Wondertree & Me classes are designed to invite both children and their caregivers to engage in open-ended play prompts that develop creativity, empathy, and encourage joyful play. Each class is one hour long and includes songs and guided play prompts that follow a theme throughout the season. Classes are held outdoors in local greenspaces and are held in all weather, with the exception of dangerous weather.
Throughout the series, we’ll leverage the captivating natural world to teach kids several building blocks of focus: how to feel present in the moment; how to zoom in and zoom out; how to wonder; and how to follow their interests. We’ll also reinforce rituals that help us feel both grounded and open to discovery. We’ll do it all through enriching, outdoor play!
Program Goals
develop an appreciation for our natural world
learn how to observe animals in nature without disturbing the natural habitat of the forest
come to differentiate types of materials that can be gathered (small sticks, leaves) from materials that are critical to the forest and should not be gathered (living plants, branches still on a tree or bush, nests)
use their own discovery tools (5 senses) and mindfulness techniques to observe the seasonal changes in flora and animals. These seasonal changes will be incorporated into play
use a variety of brought art supplies to drive their own artistic process through prompts from facilitators
interact with their peers and caregivers to build community through play, while outside in nature
